Frequently Asked Questions
No. Using generative AI to create marketing content is an ethical minefield with huge privacy concerns. Any text or images created by genAI cannot be copyrighted, so they don’t belong to the marketing consultant who generated them or, indeed, you, the client who paid for them. For more about why I don’t use generative AI, read my blog post on the subject.
However, the bottom-line reason I write and design everything myself is that I think my clients deserve better than AI slop. They deserve high-quality, human creativity.
My hourly rate is £75.
On my services page, I’ve tried to match most small business marketing projects with a ballpark cost. Of course, different projects require different time commitments, so for a specific quote, please get in touch.
The cost of hiring a freelance marketing consultant is based on their years of experience, their range of expertise, and how much of the work they outsource.
A junior marketing consultant is likely to charge £50 per hour, rising to more than £100 per hour for a very seasoned consultant. Marketing agencies typically charge even more.
My rate is £75 per hour, based on my 20 years’ experience in the marketing field and the wide range of services I’m able to provide. I do not outsource any of my marketing work, so I’m not upcharging the client for work done by someone else.
I’m happy to do project-based, one-off work, but many small businesses prefer to work with me on an ongoing, retainer basis. Think of me as your in-house marketing department – only cheaper.
By contracting me to work for you for a few hours a week on a retainer basis, I’m able to offer more marketing bang for your buck, thus driving down the overall price.
Yes. My business is built on not just the management and ‘ideas’ parts of marketing but also the delivery of those ideas.
I didn’t know that a lifelong passion for writing and storytelling would come together with a teenage interest (turned early side hustle) in building websites and graphic design, which would come together with a long in-house career in marketing… but here we are. Along the way, I built up a wide range of skills in not just marketing strategy but also writing, editing, design, content creation and more.
As a result, I can perform a wider range of marketing duties myself, which results in a lower cost service for clients, because I’m not outsourcing the work and slapping my own 20% charge on it. Occasionally, for particularly complex website projects, I’ll call on a high-level web developer to make sure the tech is bulletproof. But, in those isolated instances, I’ll always be transparent with you.
Yes. I deliver public relations (PR) campaigns for small businesses (or even the smallest side hustle), targeting local newspapers, magazines, and radio stations.
I can also build you an SEO-focused website that ranks highly on Google for the name of your city.
Finally, if hard-copy leaflets, posters and brochures are what you’re looking for, to get the word out about your business, I can also help.
Yes. Unlike expensive agencies who want to sell their clients the slickest, most expensive marketing possible, I love “shoestring” marketing! Low cost doesn’t need to mean low quality.
I’ll recommend only the types of small business marketing that I believe will deliver the most bang for your buck, whether that’s a website for your side hustle or a beautifully designed leaflet that shows off your services.
Yes, I offer a range of digital marketing services, including small business websites, SEO assistance, email marketing, and social media marketing.
The best marketing strategy differs for every freelancer, but I do believe what’s unbeatable is a robust website, filled with fascinating content, which ranks well on Google. Used in tandem with a lead magnet and strategic email marketing, you can’t go wrong.
Yes, I have many years’ experience in both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) marketing for small businesses. I understand the differences, both glaring and subtle, between targeting other businesses for work and speaking directly to consumers.
No, I provide small business marketing consultancy on a worldwide basis. Most of my clients prefer to communicate by email, with occasional phone calls or video calls, so I’m able to provide responsive service no matter where you are in the world.
However, I know some people prefer face-to-face meetings (or, preferably, a chat over coffee and cake). For those looking for small business marketing in Bristol, I’m able to meet in person.
